We’re expecting a big day of semi-finals rugby at City Park this weekend.

28/09/2018
The Super League A playoffs got started with a bang this past weekend as we saw Union Milnerton take the win 24-10 against Hamiltons.

Coach Isma-eel Dollie and his team must be over the moon with this result. Durbell also showed their intentions to make it to Newlands with a solid 57-14 win over Victorians.

Uni Mil will now have their toughest challenge of the season as they face Stellenbosch in the Semi Finals at City Park on Saturday. Stellenbosch have amassed an incredible 936 points thus far this season with an average of ten tries per match, as opposed to Uni Mil’s 520 and 6 tries per match. Stellenbosch are however not unbeaten this year and we know that anything can happen on the day.

False Bay will take on Durbell in the days other Super League A semi-final.  Both these teams are a lot more equal in season stats having finished 2 and 3 on the log respectively and with similar average points and tries anything can be expected in this match.

Super League B saw late night calculations and eager fans on Saturday as the final result between Hands and Hearts and All Saints and Pniel Villagers and Hamlets were entered on Scrumit. These matches had a significant impact on the Top Six and the promotion/relegation spaces. Hamlets scored a 45-17 win over Pniel Villagers, thereby ending seven on the log, and only an eleven points difference between them and Kuilsrivier. Had Hamlets scored the additional points they would have been in the mix for the play-offs instead of Kuilsrivier.

The Super League B semi-finalists were determined this Wednesday as Primrose beat Kuilsrivier 52-12 and Bellville with a 24-15 win over Franschhoek. These results now see log leaders Paarl play off against Bellville, while Helderberg are up against Primrose. Bellville will no doubt go into the match against the log leaders with a tremendous amount of confidence having beaten the number one side earlier in the season.

Kylemore’s 36-32 mid-week playoff win over Strand sees them go into the Semi Finals against log leaders Macassar. Goodwood’s one point win over Strand United (21-20) secures them the other berth against Busy Bees who last week beat Kylemore 18-13.

Macassar are unbeaten this year with their only blemish on the log being their draw to Goodwood in June. The stats are however only slightly in favour of Macassar as these teams have scored on average 30 and 29 points per match respectively and both teams on an average of four tries per match.

There are still a number of matches to played in the Promotion League with most teams still with four games in hand. Blue Stars United is heading the pack followed closely by Masiphumelele.

Blue Stars the current log leaders have their work cut out for them as they now face Silvertree this Saturday followed by a mid-week match against rivals Van der Stel- Evergreens . VDS-E however face other rivals Raithby this weekend and will know that they will have to do better having lost to them earlier this year.

The Paarl Top 6 is led by Riverstones who beat Young Standards 36-17 while Lower Paarl are in second spot having beaten Young Gardens 52 -26. These top two now face each other at Daljosafat this weekend while Albions and Young Standards face each other on the same field.

The DHL Western Province Women’s under the guidance of head Coach Jongi Nokwe will be looking to defend their national title when they take on Border Women in the final in East London on Saturday. Having claimed the title at the same venue and against the same opposition last year, DHL Western Province Women are looking to make it back-to-back titles.

Our DHL WP Rugby side are currently top of the Currie Cup log after their win over Griquas last Saturday. This weekend the boys take on the Sharks at DHL Newlands with and early kick-off at 2pm.
