WPRFU News Update 9th June

This weekend there is a shortened fixture WP Club Rugby fixture list as the mid-season break is upon us.
In Super League A, UCT host Pniel Villagers at the Green Mile looking to bounce back from last weekend’s narrow loss to Hamiltons. NTK travel to Accordian Park to take on Belhar in the only other game in Super League A this weekend.

There are four games in Super League B this weekend, the highlight being the derby between Sir Lowrians and St Georges taking place at Gustrouw at Sir Lowry’s Pass Village. That is one not to be missed. Helderberg takes on Hamlets in another crunch clash.

That game at the Charles Morkel Stadium is sure to attract plenty of support this weekend, not just for the wonderful club rugby on show, but also as the DHL WP SuperSport Rugby Challenge team takes on the Boland Cavaliers at the same venue. There are several WP Club Rugby representatives in the side including Ash Wells (False Bay), and Errol Jaggers (Tygerberg).

The DHL WP team remain the only undefeated side in the tournament. We have no doubt that run will continue this weekend in the Cape Derby against Boland. The game kicks off at 15h00.

There is a huge game taking place in Super League C this weekend as Langa host Busy Bees in a local derby that has all the ingredients for a superb day of rugby.

Police host Tech in the City League, Stel/Cor and Blakes lock horns in another derby clash over in the Northern League while in the Southern League, Thistles host Bishop Lavis.

Last week, the WP Girls U16 and under 18 teams played their Boland counterparts in a friendly clash. This was ideal preparation for the Girls’ National Week that will take place in Welkom from 2-8 July 2017.

The WP U18 Academy and Craven Week Squads were out at HPC last week as they geared up for the Coastal Tournament taking place in Oudtshoorn next weekend.

The final squads will be announced after that tournament. These teams will represent WP at the National Tournaments in July which takes place in Johannesburg.

There was no rugby for the HUBS teams this past weekend, instead the boys enjoyed each other’s company as they went for a team movie night. Making friends on and off the field is an essential part of the HUBS development program. We wish all our learners well as they now prepare for their exams.
