WPRFU News Update 5th September

With 44 clubs having secured their spot in the annual WPRFU Score Club Rugby Sevens tournament, excitement is growing ahead of this exciting event that will take place from 14th October with the finals scheduled for 11th November.
The club rugby department will call a meeting with all participating clubs shortly where all logistical arrangements will be shared.
In the President’s Cup competition, Hamiltons set up a crunch clash with False Bay this coming weekend after they beat Durbell 52 – 7 in their quarterfinal clash on Saturday. 

The other semi-final will be contested between SLA champions and President’s Cup holders Maties and UCT. The Ikey Tigers defeated Tygerberg 48 – 31 in an entertaining encounter at Florida Park to set up a clash with their traditional varsity rivals.

In the SLB section, Hamlets will host Franschhoek United while SLB champions St Georges will host Franschhoek in the other semifinal.

Both Jody Jacobs and Captain Brynn Gericke from Hamlets got on the score sheet as the hosts ran in 4 tries on their way to a 29 – 22 win over visitors Kuilsriver.

Franschhoek United shocked high riding Helderberg 31 – 26 at the Charles Morkel Stadium to qualify for their semifinals spot. 
In the Super League C competition, Scottsdene will play All Saints in the semifinals this weekend, this after they beat Goodwood 45 – 12 on Saturday. Langa will face SLC Champions Vineyards after they beat rivals Busy Bees 32 – 7.

HUBS Coach Ebrahim Allie has arrived in Norway safely and went straight into exploring a bit of Oslo. He will be gaining invaluable experience there as part of the coaching exchange program.

The WP Women’s senior team advanced to the finals of the Interprovincial Tournament after a convincing 52-12 drubbing of EP at City Park on Saturday. They will now face Border in the final which takes place this weekend. Good luck!

The 2017 Gold Cup kicks off this weekend at venues around the country. WP Representatives Tygerberg and False Bay are both in action as they look to get their tournament off to a strong start.

False Bay host Roses at the Phillip Herbstein on Saturday while Tygerberg take on Progress from Uitenhage at Florida Park on Sunday. Best of luck to both teams!
