WPRFU News Update 1st September

September is here which means the countdown to the President’s Cup has officially begun.
With the league phase now completed, it’s time for the Top 6 clubs in Super League A, B, and C to turn their attention to the President’s Cup.

Champions Maties and False Bay from SLA, St Georges and Villager from SLB and Vineyards together with All Saints all progressed to the semifinals already.

The President’s Cup quarterfinals take place this weekend at various venues around the province with exciting tussles ahead.

In SLA Hamiltons will host Durbell while Tygerberg host UCT. SLB 3rd place Helderberg host Franshhoek while Kuilsriver travel to Mamre to face Hamlets.

SLC quarterfinalist Scottsdene will host Goodwood while in Langa, Busy Bees will look to pip neighbors Langa.
Some exciting action is also expected in the bottom 8 competition.

The final of the 2017 President’s Cup will take place on Monday 25th September at City Park. The venue has been moved from DHL Newlands to accommodate the much-anticipated Test Match between the Springboks and the All Blacks which takes place on the 7th October.

Applications for the 2017 WP Club Rugby Sevens have closed with 41 clubs already having confirmed their participation.

The WPRFU Score Club Rugby Sevens will once again be hosted at Goodwood sports grounds from the 14th October with the finals planned for 11th November.

A Clubs “Dream Team” will once again be selected to participate in the international sevens event on 18 November alongside the Blitzbokke at Goodwood sport ground.

Almost 30 of the provinces top club rugby talents have been hard at work as part of an extended WP 7’s training squad.

The large training squad has been training every Monday with Head Coach Bobby Joubert and his coaching staff as they hope to force their way into the final squad ahead of the end-of-year tournaments.

The DHL WP Women’s will tussle with traditional rivals Eastern Province Women’s at City Park tomorrow kicking off at 2pm. The winner of this match will book their place in the final of this tournament.

The Busy Bees and Blue Jets girl’s u19 teams will lock horns in a curtain raiser to the provincial match. Kick off at 12noon.

In HUBS news, HUBS Coach Ebrahim Allie has touched down in Livingstone, Zambia as part of the Norwegian Exchange Program.
