Women’s Rugby is growing in leaps and bounds and has had a busy start to 2017 already.
 
The SA Women’s Rugby team held a Training camp in Cape Town over the weekend

The SA Rugby Women’s Youth Training Centre coaches including Rodger Smith were present at the camp as well.

The WPRFU Women’s Rugby department has been recruiting in high schools in Eersterivier and Kraaifontein this week as they look to bolster playing numbers ahead of the club rugby season.

Furthermore, The SARU Women’s Rugby Conference will be held next week in Johannesburg on 17th – 18th March and we eagerly await the outcome of this conference.

In Coaching news, The WPRFU Coaching EXCO have identified 19 club coaches to take part in a 8 month High Performance Program.

These coaches have been earmarked for higher honors and will meet every Monday and Thursday at HPC to attend the course.

The course content is similar to the World Rugby Level 3 and will be followed by an assessment at the end of the year.

The WPRFU Coaching department has been out at Durbell, Helderberg, and Temperance/Cities this week to help clubs in preparing for the season.

There is a Boksmart course taking place for referees this Saturday from 08h00 – 12h00 at Brackenfell PS. The next course will be on 25th March.

The WPRFU HUBS Development program will be holding a fundraising dinner on the 14th March with the DHL Stormers serving food and auctioning off memorabilia.

•Cost: R2000 per person

All Proceeds go towards the HUBS Development Program which is helping rugby development in Western Province.

In clubs news, there is a titanic clash between False Bay and Hamiltons this Saturday. Both sides have recruited well this season and will look to blend in their new faces into their already talented squads

Elsewhere, Durbell host Brackenfell as part of their Rugby Day festivities.

There is another exciting derby on the cards this weekend as Hamediehs take on rivals Silvertree at Vygieskraal on Saturday. Both teams have had a busy preseason and will look to test themselves against one another on Saturday.

Union-Milnerton host UCT in another litmus test for the SLA newcomers. A raft of new players has joined Ishma-eel Dollie’s side this season and it will be interesting to see how they blend in to the team.

The DHL Stormers are away this weekend as they travel to Nelson Mandela Bay to take on the Southern Kings. Kickoff for that game is at 15h00 on Saturday.
