WP Club Rugby Super League champions decided at DHL Newlands

This past Saturday saw a fantastic display of club rugby with ten teams in action and several fans enjoying the atmosphere at DHL Newlands.
After a full league season and play offs and knockouts the top two teams in each of the Super League divisions were invited to compete for the league titles at DHL Newlands.
In Super League C it was a 35-28 win for unbeaten Macassar as they came out on top of a closely contested match against Busy Bees to secure the 2018 Super League C title. Both these teams have been promoted to Super League B.
In Super League B, the final was contested between Paarl and former Super League A outfit Primrose, the former eventually walking away with a 26-17 victory, thereby taking the Super League B 2018 title. Both these teams have been promoted to Super League A.
Super League A saw Stellenbosch take on Durbell in a very physical encounter, with the first half equally contested. It was however the students who stepped up the pace in the second half to walk away with a 51 -27 win and secured the season title yet again.
Having beaten False Bay at City Park last week, Durbell have secured their spot in the 2019 Gold Cup.
In the divisional third and fourth place play offs we saw Super League C’s fourth place Goodwood score a narrow 41-40 win over Kylemore. Goodwood will now go on to face the thirteenth place Pniel Villagers at City Park on Saturday. The winner here will be guaranteed a position in Super League B in 2019.
Bellville, who finished fourth on the main log beat Super League B contenders Helderberg 25-18  and will now go on to face Super League A’s NTK at City Park on Saturday. A win here for either of these teams will secure their 2018 Super League A berth.
This week remains a big week for WP Club Rugby as the promotion league continues. Silvertree take on Retreat at City Park on Wednesday evening.
Blue Stars United are unbeaten and lead the pack on the promotion league log and will this weekend face Lagunya at the Nyanga Stadium in a top and bottom of the log clash. Van der Stel Evergreens host Morning Star in Stellenbosch, while it’s a two and three log position match up as Raithby and Masiphumele go head to head on Saturday.
In the Paarl Top Six league Riverstones secured the league title with a 43-24 win over Albions 43-24, while Simondium who entered via the Simonsberg region took the title in the Paarl Bottom Six league with a 57-7 win over Perel United.
