Score WP Club Rugby Final day results

The Score WP Club Rugby Sevens went down to the wire as expected on Saturday. While there was bitter disappointment for some teams, most seemed thrilled with their positions.
Day end saw several clubs celebrating their results regardless of position. The teams embraced the social occasion and promised to come back stronger next year.

St Georges, who were always a tournament favourite, took the bull by the horns to beat contenders Maties in their opening game, and eventually ended up celebrating as tournament champions in true Lulu Boys style. They received their winner’s trophy from a very happy President of WPRFU, Mr Thelo Wakefield.

St Georges will now join the two Dream teams and two WP Sevens sides, in the action together with the Blitzbokke next week.

In the Cup divisions, runners up False Bay and 3rd place Belhar, also received their trophies and medals from Mr Thelo Wakefield . Vice President Mr Gerald Njengele awarded trophies and medals to Plate winners Brackenfell RFC and runners up UWC.  Executive members Mr Ruben Riffel awarded the shield and medals to Shield winners Victorians and runners up Vineyards, and Ms Shamila Suilayman did the honours with Bowl winners Helderberg, and runners up Hands and Hearts.

In addition to coach Rickey Peterson’s announcement of the dream teams, Deputy President Zelt Marais awarded prizes to Blue Stars player Ashley Fakuni, as tournament top try and point scorer, and Young Peoples player Nico Philander was crowned player of the tournament.
