Year ends well for WP Rugby with kids at HPC

03/12/2011
It’s been a fantastic year for WP Rugby. The world of club rugby in particular saw an entirely fresh and exciting feel.

The publicity and resulting awareness resulted in many clubs, their fans and players getting the attention which was missing in the past.  We hope to take this to an entirely new level in 2012.

One of the highlights of the year, was the year end function at the DHL WP Rugby High performance Centre. On the 29th of November the WPRFU arranged for children from difficult social environments to enjoy a day of pleasure with some of the WP rugby players.

The event was supported by a number of clubs and organisations, who contributed in no small measure to bring a smile to the faces of these children. Many of these children suffer from social abuse, are without parents, disabled or otherwise disadvantaged.
The children enjoyed a great breakfast on arrival and had lunch while enjoying various games and activities.

The highlight no doubt the race against Bryan Habana, this was a delightful idea thoroughly enjoyed by all. Meeting the professional rugby players whom these kids normally only see at a distance made the smiles on the the little faces so much bigger.

The arrival of Father Christmas on a fire-engine had the kids in awe and together with Bokkie and Maya the Bee the kids were enthralled.

The gifts to the individual kids and the institutions were well received and much appreciated. The WPRFU would like to thank the sponsors, clubs and organisations who so kindly gave up their time to make this a special day.

We wish to remind everyone that the WPRFU offices close on
9 December and re-opens on 12 January.

The closing date for special requests for the 2012 fixtures was on 11 November 2011. The fixtures will be available at the end of January 2012.

The next Social Media, PR and Sponsorship seminar is on 6 Dec at The Sports Science institute at 7pm. Anyone from your club is welcome to attend. Please click here to confirm your attendance.
