The WP Dream remains a reality for Regional stars

14/06/2017
For many club rugby players, the chance to put on the blue and white stripes of Western Province doesn’t come around very often.

In years gone by, the WPRFU have made great strides in helping bring through the talented club rugby players into the professional rugby structures.

The WP Emerging and previously the WP Disa teams have given club players the opportunity to represent their province on a National level.

This year, two Emerging teams will take part in the SARU Southern Amateur Provincial Tournament which is being held in Cape Town in August.

The first Emerging team will be made up entirely of Super League A, and Super League B players as they look to defend their title from last year’s tournament.

The second Emerging team will be made up of a mixture of Super League C players, as well players from the City, Southern, and Northern leagues.

The regional team has been training at Van der Stel Sports Grounds in Stellenbosch over the past few weeks under Jerome Paarwater and Riefaadt Jappie.

“The guys have been working hard and have shown a desire to improve week on week,” Paarwater said.

They will play against a Super League C XV in the final trials ahead of the Emerging B Team Squad Announcement.

The Emerging B Team will compete in the Southern Amateur Provincial Tournament which is being hosted in Cape Town in August
