Super League A Wrap – Ikeys edge Tiere

Super League A Wrap – Ikeys edge Tiere

Florida Park was the venue for a crunch Super League A clash on Saturday between Tygerberg and the resurgent UCT.
The Ikey Tigers came into this clash on the back of a stellar run of form, winning three out of their previous four games. Tygerberg meanwhile had a point to prove as they had fallen short against the league’s top teams in previous weeks.

In what was shaping up to be a tight and tense affair was anything but as the Ikeys’ proficiency at the set-play combined with the dead-eye kicking of fly half Lohan Lubbe saw them surge to a 15 – 0 lead against the shell-shocked Tiere.

The onslaught continued in the second half as the Ikeys raced to a 27 – 0 lead. Against the odds, Tygerberg began to claw their way back into the game as the panic began to set in for the visitors.

Shuaib Samaai (2), Marvin Fransmann, and Walied Heyns all scored to ensure a nervy end to the game for the Ikeys.
The remarkable comeback was ultimately in vain as the Ikeys ultimately held on for a nerve-wracking 30 – 27 win

Tygerberg’s closest rivals Belhar made it two wins from two as they edged out Brackenfell on a cold and blustery afternoon at the Brackenfell Sports Grounds. Tries from front rowers Reagan Marcus and Bantu Mene saw Belhar to a 18 – 10 win. Wouter Whitmore and Christoffel Brandt crossed over for the hosts.

NTK’s recent run of good form was halted in its tracks as they were humbled 50 – 10 at home to Durbell on Saturday. The 2015 Gold Cup winners move up to Eighth on the overall log.
