WP PLAYERS IN BABY BOKS TEAM
Putting on my Province cap it is nice to see that several players from the Western Province will play in the final. Dillen Leyds (fullback), Kobus van Wyk (centre), Tshotsho Mbovane (wing), Handre Pollard (flyhalf) and Steven Kitshoff (prop) will all be in the starting line-up whilst Oliver Kebble (prop) will be on the bench.
JEAN – YOU MAKE US PROUD
Congratulations to Jean de Villiers for being appointed as the Springbok captain for the 2012 rugby season.
Jean is a leader on and off the field and we are very proud of this young man who learned his rugby at Paarl Gimnasium.
SPRINGBOK WOMEN’S TEAM PLAY AT GOODWOOD
A number of players from the Western Province were selected for the Springbok Women’s rugby team who will play against the touring Nomads team on Saturday at the Goodwood Stadium. The match will start at 14:00.
Janine Felix (centre of UWC), Natasha Hofmeester (wing of Maties), Celeste Adonis (flank of Maties) and Nedene Botha (hooker of Maties) are all in the starting line-up, whilst Nosipho Pswa (UWC) will be on the bench. Players from New Zealand, England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland and Sweden make up the Nomads team.
CONGRATS TO DURBELL
Congratulations to Durbanville/Bellville for winning the First Round Trophy in Super League A.
There will be two matches in Super League A this week-end. SK Walmers will play Hamiltons at CityPark, whilst Belhar en Villager will clash. Both Belhar and Villager are desperately in need of log points so this will be a huge clash for both teams.
BIG ONE IN THE STRAND
In Super League B the big match will be the one between Helderberg and NNK. Helderberg is the form team after beating Bellville in convincing style last week-end, but the NNK team will definitely back themselves for a victory in the Strand against Helderberg.
Bellville will want to get back on the winning road when they tackle Kuils River on Saturday, whilst Brackenfell will play against Hands & Heart. Pniel/Villagers will play at home against Collegians, whilst Primrose will face Goodwood. In Premier League A Scottsdene will play against Langa; Rangers against Elsies River and Paarl against Kraaifontein.
HUGE TASK FOR PETER
It is interesting to note that the former Springbok coach, Peter de Villiers, has accepted the position as director of rugby at the University of the Western Cape (UWC).
Rugby at the UWC has not developed and grown as was expected. There are various reasons for that – one is that the sport leaders at UWC are not on the same page regarding certain issues.
Pieter will need to get the UWC rugby camp in order to achieve maximum results at UWC.
