Maties and Hamiltons set for President’s Cup showdown

Reigning Super League A Champions Maties will play Hamiltons in the final of the President’s Cup Top 6 Competition.
The students defeated traditional rivals UCT 41 – 26 on Saturday to book their place in consecutive President’s Cup finals.

Munier Hartzenberg scored his 16th and 17th tries of the season while James Murphy and Jaco Gunter also got on the score sheet in another impressive Maties performance.

They will meet Hamiltons in the final after Niekkie Viljoen’s men 59 – 17 winners over False Bay at the Phillip Herbstein. The loss was the first home defeat for Jono van der Walt’s men this season and they will now focus all their attention on the Gold Cup which began on Saturday.

19 points from Hamiltons’ Top scorer Shane Vallender contributed to the big away win. Hamiltons scored eight tries in total including a brace from Louis Nel while Iewan Bartels took his individual try scoring tally to 18 for the season with another try on Saturday.

In the Bottom 8 semifinals, Union-Milnerton are through to the finals after a narrow 25 – 20 win over Brackenfell. They will play Vics after the students ran out 33 – 19 winners over SK Walmers.

Tries from Josh Powdrell, Adrian Roberts, Jodi Dennis, Thomas van Niekerk, as well as Captain Eddie Theron secured the win for Ishma-eel Dollie’s men.

The final of the President’s Cup Top 6 competition takes place on Monday 25th September at City Park.
