Florida Park to host Sunday Double Header!

13/07/2017
Florida Park is the place to be this Sunday as two fantastic rugby matches will take place.

Tygerberg take on Belhar at 12:00 in a curtain raiser to the SuperSport Rugby Challenge Final between DHL Western Province and the Tafelberg Griquas.

The derby between Tygerberg and Belhar will carry extra significance with both teams in good form and pushing for a Top 6 place in Super League A. Florida Park will be packed to the rafters as these two traditional rivals lock horns.

Form usually goes out the window in derby clashes and there is little to choose between the teams on paper. Belhar currently occupy 8th spot on the SLA table and have shown they have what it takes to mix it with the league’s big boys.

Top Point scorer Junaid Arendse will once again be the danger man for the visitors and his deadly accurate kicking boot may just determine the outcome of the game.

Out wide they have pace to burn with Joel Booysen, Angelo Nelson, and Zhaun Booysen while in Jerome Niumata and Manoa Kagi, they have classy Australasian talents looking to enjoy their first derby experience.

Tygerberg meanwhile are on a high after the win over Hamiltons and have a strong, experienced squad at their disposal. Unsurprisingly, Head Coach Ricky Petersen has named the same starting XV as the one that did the business over Hammies.

Inside Centre Gideon Taljaard is their leading marksman this season and he has formed a formidable midfield partner with Shuaib “Bom” Samaai.

Up front, Shameegh Allen has been a man on a mission this season while their loose forwards are some of the most explosive in Super League A.

It’s shaping up to be a titanic derby clash on Sunday. Two teams with passionate communities behind them will have the Florida Park fields rocking as they look to climb the Super League A ladder.

Kickoff is at 12:00 while the SuperSport Rugby Challenge Final will kick off at 14:30. Both games will be shown live on SuperSport.
