All Saints beat Vineyards in promotion cracker, Macassar go down to Scottsdene

17/07/2017
All eyes were on Somerset West on Saturday as All Saints took on Vineyards. Both sides have their eyes set on promotion and could ill-afford a loss here.

Vineyards got back to winning ways last week and needed the win to keep pace with the league leaders. Both teams have exceeded all expectations having only gained promotion to SLC last year.

It was All Saints who started the stronger as they took the game to their formidable opponents. Tries from Cheslyn Jack, Rhoden
November, Romeo Jantjies, and Jody Sylvester helped seal the 27 – 12 win for Jeremy Jansen’s team.

Vineyards’ star forward Ayoob Moerat and Abduragiem Diedericks responded for the visitors but it was in vain as they suffered their second loss of the season and their third loss in three years. They will be right in the promotion mix come the end of the season but this was All Saints ’ day. The club continues their improbable march to the SLC title and is looking like the real deal.

All Saints’ neighbors and title rivals Macassar were dealt a major blow as they went down 19 – 36 to Scottsdene on Saturday.
Scottsdene, aided by tries from Ashwin Dube and Donovan Hermanus, as well as a 13-point haul from star man Leroy Ruiters, were too strong for the hosts who had no answer for their speed and accuracy.

Macassar remain second on the overall log but have played two games more than closest challengers Vineyards.

Nkululeko Feks was the inspiration behind Langa’s 29 – 0 win over Young Stars on Saturday. His deadly accurate kicking boot, coupled with tries from Siviwe Cakasayo, Khanyisa Doyi, and Masilakhe Giyama, helped Langa to their sixth win of the campaign.

The loss for Young Stars is a damaging one as they are now only above the relegation playoff position on points difference.

In results elsewhere, Elsies River went down at home to Strand United 8 – 20, Busy Bees edged out Lagunya 16 – 13 as they continue their promotion push, while 15 points from Juan Keet was not enough as Raithby Universals went down 30 – 31 to Strand
