Club Rugby's silly season.
So the club rugby merry-go-round is in full swing with the club whores jumping ship and chasing the highest bidder. Some interesting rumblings coming out of the S Suburbs with several 'high profile' players making the move.

One or two clubs are apparently in no position to maintain their SLA status financially and are hoping their members return and play for the love of the game. Let's hope so.

Jakes my friend. Dont u think a bit harsh calling them whores...it is anyone person's democratic right to play where he wants..he is making a decision which best suits him so if money is his motivator it is his right. For some it might not be money but for some it is but i agree with you it is the f.... silly season

Are Villagers one of those clubs that wont be able to remain in SLA because of lack of funds? anyways, im sure players will go where they are assured game time as well......

RE:Club Rugby's silly season.
Still abit early to tell but it looks quite promising that the majority of our 1st xv squad will remain at nnk in 2012.  this is the first time since 2008 that we will have a settled squad at pre season.  Of course there are a few who have complained about game time and are looking elsewhere.  Confident we can build on this season and get back to SLA and stay there!

RE:Club Rugby's silly season.
Club Rugby is a professional sport managed by amateur's and the truth of the matter is there are very few players who still play for the name on the front of the jersey.

It is up to us to try and instill values in these young men that they identify with, hopefully making the money less of a factor.

Yes we can!!!!

RE:Club Rugby's silly season.
@Newbie, there are guys who in their first four seasons of "open rugby" playing at four different clubs. There are guys who are reaching double figures in terms of the different clubs they have represented. Money talks and bullsh1t walks I'm afraid.

@Kappa, I wouldn't be able to comment on the financial status at Villagers but can say that there are two SSuburbs clubs that are seeing the cracks develop and spread at an alarming rate. Remember there are quite a few high profile clubs in the SSuburbs.

RE:Club Rugby's silly season.
How very elitist of you, only mentioning the three SLA clubs However what has been said is that there are two clubs that things are not as rosy as what is being portrayed......I'm sure there will something more "official" posted by the relevant parties.

Jakes which club in the league and the other leagues can officially say, they are where they want to be money wise? or are "rosy" as you put it.

RE:Club Rugby's silly season.

It cant be Villagers because I know that they are now sponsored by an International AV company. Cant be UCT because they will never not have any sponsorships, cant be Primrose bcos they'll be Jive-ing this season...so it has got to be???

RE:Club Rugby's silly season.
Almost half the Rangers first xv have been contacted by clubs and subsequently being courted ... Culy, its true as you say, the only way is getting that values instilled and hope for the best.
