if this player was drunk, and the coach knew about it
why was he allowed to play?

Rugbyprinses, I disagree with you as far as club responsibility is concerned.

I feel for Durbell, one idiot ruining a good reputation, but at the end of the day Durbell allowed an intoxicated player onto the playing field and they should be held resposible for his actions too. Surley the coach or manager had to know this player was drunk.

Jean, well done on the manner in which you responded.

I trust all the other clubs where such behaviors are defended and tolerated can learn from Jean's and Durbell's example.

I think Maties are going to be challenged to prove that the player was drunk unless they have solid evidence. It would be sad if a case get's thrown out on technical grounds....... Can anyone prove that the player was drunk ? Only smelling will not be enough.

The action of the player is still disappointing, i am just trying to point out the technical side of thinks.

I am also confident that the likes of Durbell and Maties would be able to sort this matter out.

Cape Town - Former Western Province and Free State hooker, Dawid Britz, is in trouble once again - and this time it could end his career.

According to the Rugby365 website, Britz is to face a disciplinary hearing of the Western Province RFU on Thursday, charged with assaulting Beau Schoeman, an assistant coach at Stellenbosch.

Britz had a promising career ahead of him. He had played for South Africa at Under-19 level  in 2001 and Under-21 in 2003 before moving to Western Province in 2004. The wheels came off in 2005 when he tested positive for the use of a new type of steroid believed to be undetectable.

That signalled the end of his representative career.

Britz, now 28, has been playing for the Durbanville-Bellville club's second team.

After a recent match he is reported to have struck Schoeman, once a Boland stalwart at fullback, across the ear with an open hand, causing damage to Schoeman's eardrum.

The Durbell club intended to hold its own inquiry, but Britz pre-empted this by resigning from the club.

ek was nogals by die Maties vs Durbell game en daai was 'n vollende PK wat Dawid vir Die Maties bra gegee het. Lyk hy het nog die ou se bril tot binne in sy brein geslaan. Nie almal het gesien nie, maar almal het definitief die "impact" gehoor.
