Cape Malay Tournament
What we should do is arrange a tournament at the end of Ramadaan for all senior teams. All the Malay teams in the various wp club rugby leagues should be invited. When the tournament is complete, we select a squad of 30 of the best players and at the end of the year/beginning of the year , they go on a tour to play in various other provinces. This way we all connect with each other. What do you guys think? I know this will be hard to organise, but seeing that our season is ending is such a hurry due to the fast, we can play our own tournament afterwards. Maybe it could prolong over two weeks. You play on Wednesday/Friday/Saturday and Sunday. It could be played at the GreenPoint track.

That will be a good idea, but I know some of the clubs have a couple of games after the Ramadaan. So they wont be able to partake immediately

It seems you losing your sense of unity Josh K. THis is just so that families can come together and watch rugby, Families playing rugby against each other etc..
We can do it to raise money for Orphans or any charity's etc...

RE:Cape Malay Tournament
It sounds like it could be a very nice event, old school rivalries.
The only major problem is that i dont think u can exclude clubs based on ethnicity. The jive cricket tournament had the same problem.
Sure would have been very interesting.

RE:Cape Malay Tournament
This would be an exclusive APARTHEID style tournament
How would we react if all the white clubs had a tournament amongst themselves?
Shit idea

I think you a bit harsh on Planki. His intention it seems was building of community spirit and not Apartheid style exclusion.
I agree that such a tournament will be discrimanatory and you going to need a fairly decent chap to prove in court of law that it is not unfair discrimination.
BUT, why not re-invent rag days. Clubs are allowed to invite old rivals and play against them.

RE:Cape Malay Tournament
Planki speaks of unity .. and wants to base this whole thing on colour, but when we speak of the unfairness that still exists today he is the one that wets his broek about people having to move on and get on with things.
We dont need a tournament like that to create unity ... what we need to do is to support our clubs properly and making that a place for family and friends ...

Planki. With respect, you appear to suffer from a "Apartheid" hang-over.Wake up to our new S.A...Think broader and 'inclusive'..there are many other ways to acheive the results and benefits you're looking for.

RE:Cape Malay Tournament
Im sure Planki didnt mean it as it seems..... Such tournaments are held over Easter in East London and even Langa and many other places with only "Black Clubs", and nobody has anything to say about it. Those ''Day of Rugby'' stuff that used to be held on Sundays on the Track, no longer works in my opinion.

I do apologise if I offended anyone, this is not a race issue. This idea was just to uplift our community with rugby and intergrate it with religion. As mentioned in my post, I did ask "what do you think". I am not one to talk about race people. Maybe it is one dimensional, but I truly meant in a good aspect.

RE:Cape Malay Tournament
Well, if it is a regional tournament and there happens to be only 'black clubs' within the region then it stands to reason, that for logistical reasons, only those clubs are invited...If that is not the case then it unfortunate remains a racist one ..whether it has a only 'black', only 'malay' , only 'coloured' or only 'white' flavour to it.

RE:Cape Malay Tournament
Kloof het dan net 5/6 "malays" in die first team starting line-up saterdag teen Durbell. gehad :-)
And what about Vineyards? Are we "Paarl" malay of is die Moerate nie "malays" nie LOL!
On a serious note, one of my companies, Al-Isra is a muslim organisation and we wanted to do this next year. Al-isra would then sponsor each team with his playing strip and warm up kit for that weekend and the season if they want to continue using it. Budget is R5 000 per club so a decent jersey can be made for the 10 clubs invited. This will form part of our compulsary charity portion as we have to give to "muslim" organisations. Will that be creating an apartheid "vibe"? Interseting... I am glad this topic came to the front as I was about to apraoch these clubs.
But by the resopnse here, maybe I should can that idea???
Coauld be more negative than positive.
