3 questions for this man :
1. How far do they go in terms of geographics when scouting for talent.
2. What methods are used ie .. travel by car to physically see, word of mouth .. sms ...
3. What do they look for in terms of the individual as far as 'talent' is concerned.

RE:Head of WPRFU talent identification Jerome Paarwater on Cape RugbyTV
Josh, I did not watch the show yet, but in terms of question number 1, the answer is that this should be a very easy task in the WP. It's the smallest rugby province in the country! They should try scouting for talent in the Northern Cape where it's more than 800km from Griquas' union HQ in Kimberley to its most outlying clubs.
2. I would hope by car, given the relatively tiny distances involved.
3. Among other questions, they should ask whether the player can play in a higher division than where they are currently, all the way to SLA. The SLA should be the league where all talented players should aspire to play if they want to be noticed and their rugby credentials taken seriously. Yes, there are no doubt many talented players in lower divisions, but the reason for staggered leagues in any sport in any country is that they all act as feeders to the top league, where the very best play. Lower leagues are stepping stones. The ability of an excellent scout or talent spotter is to identify which players displaying their skills in lower leagues have the potential to do so in a higher league. It's all about potential, but measuring just how much potential resides in each individual player is where the art and skill of scouting comes in.
