Monthly CC Awards......
That apparently overrated flyhalf that has been unfairly elevated to the WP CC team has been named CC player of the month. How did the powers that be get it sooo wrong??  John Mitchell of the Lions was named coach of the month.

Felt that Mapoe was one of the better players around last month, Mitchell deserves it .. but they have been lucky in that there are no leavers for the Bok team and have had consistency in selection ..

RE:Monthly CC Awards......
I would say the one thing that might have tipped it to the Province flyhalf was the fact that he is fairly new to the currie cup and the world of professional rugby and he did show he can make it - he seems to be handling pressure quite well (even when I played with him I always thaught he had a cool head). Mapoe also was very impressive to me but he has been there are there about over these last few seasons. Mitchell is a yster though but he will not be tested as he would have been were all the other top sides at full strength so I guess he is okay for now.

I've always said New Zealand has the best coaches. Alex Wylie also had success when he coached here. I was surprised that the Lions didn't do better in the Super 15.

Jean, I guess that's why I am saying that Mitchell would have been better tested if the Currie Cup was playing with full strength teams... I can imagine that they would probably have been in 3rd or 4th after Sharks, Province, Bulls or Cheetahs!

Please note that I am a Lion supporter and do feel they are doing well but I wish we would have been playing full strength teams just to have seen where we really finding ourselves.

We can always say what if .. but thats not the situation in reality .. and in reality they both deserve the awards I guess .. Jean, The Lions will be a work in progress but I believe that if they make a couple of quality signings they will do brilliantly .. I also believe Mapoe must play at 13 for the Lions ... they also are going to need a foil for Jantjies ... he needs someone to take the pressure off especially now that Vermaak is gone.
