SBW considering return to league – Reports from New Zealand suggest Sonny Bill Williams is seriously considering playing rugby league once as soon as next season.
The former league star was widely expected to commit to another season in union, most likely with the Blues, although the Chiefs and Waratahs are in the market for the 26-year-old. He has also expressed a desire to play alongside Quade Cooper at the Reds. However, the Herald reports that Williams is weighing up a lucrative offer from league’s Sydney Roosters.
Williams has also failed to secure a starting berth with the All Blacks, fuelling speculation that he could seek to further his career elsewhere. Probed for his future plans Williams said: ‘I’m not sure, I can’t say, I’m not 100 per cent any more. That’s one thing I’ve done a bit of reflecting on.
‘A man is entitled to change his mind from time to time. People have been pushing me to make a decision, but for me it’s about doing what’s best for myself and my family. At this stage I won’t be making a decision until after the World Cup. I’ll just be concentrating now on the World Cup and trying to get a spot.’
I think that the Cape Crusaders "scared" him away from rugby. Too much pressure maybe? This guy was made to be bigger than a rockstar in Cape Town and got a bigger reception than Bono from u2! Can be overwhelming... I am no all Black but this Will be a huge loss to rugby.
