bad experience @ Nuweland 6/5/2011

Me & my husband experienced something verby bad Saturday. Stormers@Crusaders.

As my husband is a Crusader fan he cheered for his team and a "white ou"" in the front seat was so upset with him and shout  "kan julle kleurlinge nie op 'n ander  plek gaan sit nie""  Ons was totaal en al uit die veld geslaan.

I heard of a few such incidents, and I know of many 1st time visitors to Newlands and it definately wasnt a good advert for the Union.I am a Stormers supporter while many of my friends are Crusaders, everyone is free to support who ever they wish!!!

That is not good, you should be allowed to support whoever you want no matter what race you are. I am white and I have said this before, there are still to many people who do not embrace democracy. Maybe this guy was trying his best to stirr up the local Stormers fans too much. The Cape okes do not like their team losing! Newlands has always had a good reputation for welcoming visiting supporters, and it must stay that way. WP union officials need to get vigilant and throw out and ban supporters who make life difficut for others - like they do in English football. We must not tolerate this nonsense. Anyway hard luck Stormers.

This has been happening for years meneer, once I had my wife and baby son ( at the time ) at Newlands, I got verbal abuse to no end. I asked my wife to take my son to the car and escorted them to the vehicle, when I came back these louts had alot of bek ... when I confronted them they said bugger all .. Zelda, se vir jou man , hy moenie worry nie ... dit sal nog steeds gebeur hier in die kaap ... maar dinge sal verander .. al is dit stadig.

RE:bad experience @ Nuweland 6/5/2011
Sorry to hear one of my friends had this experience. I was at Newlands too. In fact, I "cried" for tickets, and at the end my friend came to my rescue, and invited me with him to his company's suite.
I support the AB's & the Crusaders. What irks me though, is the booing from sides of the fence. Why? I've got friends from both sides, so we respect each others' opinions/likes/dislikes.

Now there's a He say & She say about who is guilty of the booing. The Crusaders fans is guilty of the booing, but so is the Stormers fans, but the media is now onesided and blame it all on the Saders/AB's fans. What shit?!! I was there, and I witnessed both sides doing it. Every time, amongst other, SBW was busy, he's being booed.
My outcry to both sides, pls guys, let's being mature about it, and rather applaud good play.

Stormer fans out there, and I know not all of you, as long as you have the attitude such as what has been described here by Zel, the hand of friendship from those radical AB fans won't be greeted. Same can be said to the radical AB fans. I can add more and more. But leave it with this mesg. Maybe not strong enough.

I am proud to be a Saders and AB fan, and a decent one at that. Why must a person in an All Black jersey be looked upon with remorse? Same applies to the return question. People, we are all rugby/sport lovers. Let it be that. Incidents such as Shane's incident unnecessarily opens up unwanted cans of worms.

I will take a Stormer/Bok fans hand unconditionally. If the favour's not returned...well, that just  manifests a character with little.....
To be fair, one must be JUST!

RE:bad experience @ Nuweland 6/5/2011
hi crusader supporters ,i were shouting for the crusaders and a whitey stood up and ask me to be quite and too sit, that was so 10 minutes in the game...that was his biggest mistake ,i made him and his family leave within 5 minutes.i washed his face and told him its because of people like him newlands is turning into christchurch.
so never allow anyone to make u quite on newlands, stormers supporters like to brag before the games and when they loose they wanna get angry or blame the ref..
im not interested in the media at all...
they all jealous for SBW...just ask any stormers supporter if Jean De villiers played

@Zeldavids. Sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately there are white people who have not embraced the "new SA". In my social circle if someone says something racist, I dont snigger as many do, i address it. It is time for all of us to change this attitude and not to accept it. However it is not only a white problem, I have been racialy abused as a white person and there are many examples of black/coloured racism. It is unacceptable from anyone. I think the people who want a racial free society outweigh those that dont embrace it. Crusaderallblack, your comments come accross as arrogant and a little racist as well - why call us whiteys, I would not call you a darkie in the same context.

As far as booing is concerned, I feel all booing is a sign of stupidity and bad manners, no matter who does the booing.

You need to understand that these poeple ''live for rugby''. Hence the fact that even with the abolishment of appartheid, they had to preserve ''THEIR rugyby''. So, they went ahead and replaced appartheid with MONEY. Almost all the WP/Stormers staff is non-white. but they all puppets! Even the coach Coetzee. It's actually SAD to see how these people are being used. But then again!! If the money is good , then the business is good.!

It is the home ground for Stormers FFS, what do you expect. would you like red carpet treatment into the ground. Outside the ground there been reports of very bad behavour from the "crusaders" supporters as well. Does that get mentioned? It even made news24.

How do expect any respect if you show none? Booing Cronje on his first kick, what is that about? You at an away game at the end of the day show a little respect.

Would you run round Liverpool in a Man U shirt the day they play each other? or any other team in the log.

You chose to support the All black / crusaders or who ever you want, but you seriously got to wake up and not expect roses going to away games for yourselves.

If you cant accept that, then rather don't go to newlands "the home of the Stormers" to watch rugby.....Simple. I promise that the stormers would not miss you at all.

 Hi Zelda
I feel your pain, I was also at the game as many of you. What happen to me was that some idiot whitey on the upper levels actually poured his Dop down onto Stormer/ Crusader supporters. What makes me really sick is that the people who the Dop was spilled on dont drink as it is against their beliefs. How do you justify your behavior who ever you are. Newlands is a place for all whether you support the Stormers or not. When we actually told one of the securities his response was that it is not his section and that he cant do anything. Not to sound racist but if it was a white person complaining about a coloured misbehaving dan was da nou met jou gedeal.Like the one Crusader fan shouted at them " I paid for this ticket and did not get it for free like many of you do"

RE:bad experience @ Nuweland 6/5/2011

I agree with Slegend, support who you wish, but remember you are visiting the home of the stormers and you going to take some heavy chirping.

I DON'T agree that the chirping should be race based and i think thats what Zelda was on about.

But supporters of any opposition, be it Bulls or Crusaders, you more than welcome to watch the game at Newlands but remember it is our home game.

THERE IS NO PLACE FOR RACISM, END OF STORY

RE:bad experience @ Nuweland 6/5/2011
I am very shocked to learn about the experience of Zelda. This was never suppose to happen. I would also like to add that this was most definately not the norm of behaviour from all the white stormers supporters but rather isolated events and i would call that these racial encounters be dealt with in this spirit. Zelda what you were suppose to do was to report that person to security, as he was suppose to be charged and sanctioned with a very heavy fine so as to the person that spilled his beer. Do not be silent about it, let it be heard. In the same spirit i would like to share my experience i had at Loftus when we beat the Bulls a few weeks ago. I had my WP jersey on, amongst alot of ather WP/Stormers fans. You guys and girls should have been here to experience the amount of chirping we got form the Bulls fans, but there was never as far as i heard any racial slurs in it, it was all pure teasing and rugby slirs jokes, you even get offered brandewyn and coke, some also wanted to take photos, and i am not lying. One thing i have noticed though is that the Blue Bulls Union has zero tolerance for racism, they even have a Red Card Racism initiative that they have and embraced at the stadium. Proof of that was at the entrance gates, as a white Blue Bulls supporter did not want to be searched by a black ticket/security officer, he then called for a manager, who was also black, he then called for the senior manager who was white and this is what happened : The senior manager explained to this person the policies when entering the premises, escorted the man out of the premises as he was refused entry based on his racial prejudice. Even Bulls supporters lashed out at this man while he was making a scene. I was so impressed with what i have experienced, but it is all because of the in principle stance the Bulls took on racism.I can tell you, when i was living in CT and visited Newlands, i went with Tygerberg on their away games when they played in SLA and SLB, i visit Loftus when WP/Stormers play here, and i am confident to say, coloured, black and white rugby supporters can tollerate each other and most to all of the times they want to say the same thing, but unfortunately it comes out differently....

RE:bad experience @ Nuweland 6/5/2011
My opinion for what it's worth....

I respect New Zealanders or Aussies travelling with their teams when they attend a match here and I will shake their hands if they beat us. No problem.

I do not however respect someone who were born and bred in Cape Town who supports an overseas team against the Stormers or Boks. There is word for that - treason. I back my own - as simple as that. I was born and bred in PE and if the Stormers or WP play The EP Kings I will be supporting the Kings, but against all the other teams I will support the Stormers because that's where I live now.

I don't get involved with bad mouthing them, but I don't respect them.
